Commemoration of Place Kate-McGarrigle on Laurier in Outremont and Concerts in aid of the Kate McGarrigle Fund at Theatre Outremont.

Posted June 4th, 2013 by Anna

Aug 7 is the day the City of Outremont honours Kate with the opening of Place Kate-McGarrigle on avenue Laurier near Querbes. For many years, Kate was a familiar figure on Laurier and the family is very touched by this gesture. By then, the Robert Wilson chair, Kate/Nora, will be in place in the small park space now planted with shrubs and flowers that Kate liked. The ceremony is slated to begin around 1.30p.m. or 13.30 and the City is closing off Laurier so people can mill about. Later that evening, Lian Lunson’s Sing Me the Songs That Say I love You will be screened at the Outremont Theatre on avenue Bernard. On Aug 8 there are 2 concerts, also at the Outremont, in honour of Kate and benefiting the Kate McGarrigle Fund. Special guests are Robert Charlebois, Michel Rivard, Marie-Michele Desrosiers, Fannie Bloom and Pierre Lapointe. Martha, Rufus, Jane and I are the hosts. Please come!

I find the McGarrigles a little too anglophone. But let it not be said Anna and Kate wrote better than I write. I met Kate. I always liked her. She would not date me, but, tant pis. Je souhaite le meilleur pour son ame et sonj esprit. Dieu te benisse, Catherine.

It was a beautiful ceremony this afternoon and the park + artwork will be an oasis in the Laurier Street boutique area. I look forward to the growth of greenery/flowers
which were her favourites. And the family song so a propos! Merci for sharing this special day with all of us, fans and passerbys. It was truly a celebration and recognition of her many talents.
I used to go to your family (and those of rufus)concerts at Theatre Outremont and am looking to seeing the film this evening.

Couldn’t be there (and feeling extremely sad about that) but am glad to hear that it was well appreciated by those who were and hope the sun was radiant on everyone there.

I just received the CD of “Sing Me the Songs.” What beautiful and heartful renditions of Kate’s and Anna’s songs. I still miss Kate so. Writing from Massachusetts USA; Wish I lived closer.
